How Omnia Global delivered a 28-camera Verkada security system to a remote Aboriginal boarding school near Esperance, Western Australia, navigating connectivity challenges, limited access, and tight deadlines.
About the School
Wongutha CAPS is a Christian boarding school situated near the breathtaking landscapes of Esperance, Western Australia. It serves Year 11 and 12 Aboriginal students from some of the most isolated towns and communities across the state, creating a welcoming home away from home for students who would otherwise have limited access to senior secondary education.
The school is dedicated to nurturing not only academic achievement but also the health, wellbeing, and spirit of its students. Its staff work tirelessly to maintain a safe, supportive environment where young people from remote communities can truly thrive.
The Challenge
Deploying enterprise-grade security infrastructure at a remote regional school comes with a unique set of hurdles that simply don't exist in metro environments. Our team had to plan carefully and adapt quickly throughout the project. Key challenges included:
The Solution
Omnia Global designed and deployed a 28-camera Verkada security system across the Wongutha CAPS campus. Verkada's cloud-managed platform was well suited to this environment. Its ability to manage devices remotely through a single web-based dashboard reduces the need for ongoing on-site maintenance, which is a significant advantage for a school this far from the city.
Verkada's hybrid cloud architecture means footage is stored locally on the camera itself as well as being accessible via the cloud, ensuring continuous recording even if connectivity is intermittent. This is exactly what is needed in a remote location. The system gives school administrators easy, secure access to live and recorded footage from any device, anywhere.
Our local team managed every aspect of the deployment, from site assessment and system design through to installation, commissioning, and handover training for school staff. Being a Perth-based Western Australian business meant we understood the unique demands of this kind of regional project firsthand.
The Outcome
Wongutha CAPS now has a modern, enterprise-grade security platform protecting its students, staff, and facilities around the clock. The school's leadership has a clear, real-time view of their campus, giving them confidence and peace of mind that their community is safe.
For our team, this project is a great example of what we do best: tackling technically demanding installations in challenging environments and delivering outcomes that genuinely matter to the communities we serve.
